Today, March 1, New York State’s Cybersecurity Rule goes into effect. This new law will impact every DFS-Regulated Financial Services firm in New York State.
Even though it is called the “Cybersecurity Rule”, the name is a little misleading. The law impacts many areas of network and information security, including requiring plans for periodic secure disposal of old records.
The State is taking this very seriously. You can read Governer Cuomo’s statement here .
For a quick discussion on the impacts of the law, click my short YouTube video below. You can also get details on Section 500.13 of this law (the section which specifies secure disposal) on the Compliance page of our website. And for a serious discussion about putting your compliant records disposal plans in place before the August implementation deadline, please call or email me !
